Too Long

Hello again!!

Time - what a funny thing - it just keeps slipping away!!

It wasn't long ago that I was stressing about midterms and assignments and making it to New Zealand! Well, I'm here to catch you all up!

As I type this I am happy to say "I made it"!! I am currently in Temuka, New Zeanland having the time of my life!!

But let me back up a bit! I struggled to make it through the semester to be honest! This year has been more challenging than expected and despite the accidents, job changes, and illnesses - I MADE IT THROUGH!! This past weekend the long wait for results finally came to an end and I found out I received two passes and even managed a credit! I AM OFFICIALLY A THIRD YEAR VET STUDENT AND ONE SEMESTER AWAY FROM HALF WAY DAY!! Half way day is the time when our first degree comes to an end and we move into our clinical degree!! Again if anyone would like to support me (and I mean anyone) I still have a few "nude" calendars to sell to any interested parties :)

Now back to my adventures:
I flew out of Perth on Wednesday Nov. 26 at 530am, had a really relaxing 5 hour layover at Sydney exploring the huge airport! And then I flew into Christchurch, NZ at 11:15pm. So unfortunately I had no idea how beautiful this country was! But in my two weeks here, I know whole heartedly I am coming back in the future!!

I stayed at Kiwi Basecamp in Christchurch for two days and met so many wonderful people. I went to the International Antartica Centre and I got to feed a penguin!!! And the girl feeding them said they could always use more vets for the penguin conservation work!! :) so who knows! Friday I walked around Christchurch and went up the Gondola (cable car)! I ended up staying up all night partying with new friends! My travel bug is definitely reignited and backpack life was so much fun! I really gotta do more of it :)

The farm family picked me up at 10am on Saturday the 29th and I've been in Temuka working my butt off! They have red stag deer, sheep, and beef cattle on 800acres.  We have been busy harvesting velvet, took some 90kg yearlings to the slaughter house and the farm hand Sam was able to kill one, I was to pussy to do it! We muster cattle and shift paddocks every 2nd-3rd day depending how wet it is, the wetter it is the faster they destroy the paddocks. Same with the sheep. The we have been drafting the lambs ready for slaughter away from their moms - 90 a few days ago and 120 yesterday. And then you put them away and then you redraft the mob to wean all the little lambs that weren't heavy enough for slaughter and as they are drafted we split them into ewes (moms) and boy lambs and girl lambs. After that we shear the poopy bottoms off the butts to prevent fly strike! But flipping 170 lambs a day on their bottoms is a lot harder of work than it sounds! My legs are so bruised and my arms are just sore, but farm work is amazing! I knew I was always meant to be a country girl! I'm still just not that into sheep - I'll stick with alpacas and cows - I do like the deer a lot despite their skiddishness because they are rarely handled and despite one trying to topple me over last week and my arm still hurts!

I did get last weekend off and so I got kidnapped by new friends and off we went! We saw so much in two days it was amazing! Got to hotel in Timaru at 9pm Friday night and just watched movies until sleep. Saturday we had breakfast at a cute cafe, walked to the harbour and walked around the beach playing with seashells, walked up Caroline bay and sat on the cliffs, then played on a giant hamster wheel at the playground, tried to find mini golf for about an hour and we finally found it - it was closed :( on a Saturday?! Who does that?! Anyways we went into the aviary instead where a cheeky parrot tried to nest in my hair. Next we went to the museum. Saw the Christmas parade through Timaru, got some chips and a beer at the pub attached to hotel and then drove an hour south to Oamaru where we tried to go to penguin colony but they were out fishing so no penguins to be seen, but we did get up close and personal with some seals and I mean super close, walked the pier, played on another playground (giant slide!), and ended Oamaru by walking the historic district and finding a really creepy unique art studio! It was really neat but totally different! We made it back to Timaru just after 7 and went to go see Fury in theatres! An amazing WWII movie! It was so good, I highly reccomend it! Then Sunday we drove all day stopping where wherever we wanted. I managed to find an historic building on Lake Tekapo that was on the cover of my friends map and we of course took plenty of pictures! I have never ever seen water so blue and I have seen a LOT of lakes in my life!! It was so blue it looked fake!! And then we travelled all the way to Mt. Cook. So I have been staying on the south eastern side of the southern island and Mt Cook was on the northwestern side of NZ southern island! It was an amazing sight and I even was allowed to drive ;)

Back to farm and we have been doing lots of drafting of lambs again! Tuesday I went with the farm mom 2hours South to Dunedin while she worked on the docks filling two crates with milk powder which is her other job as an inspector! I hiked 3 lookout points in two hours and as exhausted as I was the views were phenomenal! Yesterday we drafted all morning in the rain and then sorted poppy wool from clean wool. And I went to bed super early. We have been out working by 8am and then staying up till 11pm-midnight but last night I showered and was asleep by 930!! Today I got to sleep in till 840 while farm dad was out putting fertiliser down and so I got to stay in and help clean house and I put up their Christmas tree all by myself and I think it looks fabulous! now I'm off to go ride in a tug boat with the farm moms coworker! Full of adventures! Tomorrow is my last full day of farm work and back to christchurch on Saturday! Where I fly out at 1120, a short flight to Auckland on the northern island and then 7 hours from Auckland to Perth! I have sooo much work to do when I get home and back to earning money - I could stay on the farm for another month!! But that's not paying the bills and I miss my fur babies!!

Now that I have passed my exams and had a hard working holiday, I hope to face this summer full on and have lots more adventures!! I promise to get my photos in Flickr soon - it's just taking forever to upload (almost at 600photos already!!) but they are on my facebook page if you wanna have a peak at them there!! Talk soon!!

Fingers Crossed

Not to worry everyone - my sickness is fading and it's only the migraines that are lingering like always. AND just know that no one else can bring me down for long.

I don't normally blog stuff like that, but my message got acrossed to those I wanted it to. I wish I could just post the warm and fluffy stuff, but that's not life and I feel it's important to share my ups as well as my downs. I want everyone to known post was only for a select few and not even close to a majority of my readers were involved. The support system I have, even if like 98% of you are half way around the world, mean so much to me and I hope to support you as you have supported me. I appreciate all the emails and private messages asking me directly how I'm holding up, and they truely mean the world to me. It's the only way I know who is still there for me no mater how much space and time get between us! No one truely understands the struggles Brian and I have had to face over the last few months, but for everyone who has taken the time to be there for me - thank you!

Now for some really good news! I may be going to New Zealand after all :) there is another farm on the southern island (closer to lord of the rings thrills except for hobbiton - the hobbit hole permanent exhibit in the middle of a sheep farm on the northern island and if anyone knows me I want a circle door like hobbits have SOO BAD!) is that weird?! Ha :) But this farm has 1000 sheep, 150 beef cattle, and  450 DEER!!!!!! what?!? So excited :) I just have to get ahold of the farmers and arrange the details.

I mean really who wouldn't want a hobbit door?
And it looks like a paw print! How fitting :) I love it! :)

Alright enough about doors - go enjoy your day :)

Without A Stitch - NUDE CALENDAR

The Murdoch Veterinary Students Graduating Class of 2017 would like to offer you the 2015 Nude Calendar "Without a Stitch" for $15 a calendar.

"Halfway Day is an annual tradition of the Murdoch Veterinary School held in late July each year. This is a day of joyous celebration for the vet students who are halfway through their six year degree. It allows students to reflect upon their accomplishments and appreciate the valuable support they have received from their family, friends, and staff over the years.
The transition into the final clinical years of the veterinary degree is an extremely exciting time for all involved. We are able to begin surgery, anaesthesia and small animal practice. We can begin to apply our theoretical knowledge of veterinary biology in a clinical setting.
By purchasing this calendar you are supporting the Murdoch Veterinary School and its students, as well as donating to Guide Dogs WA, the primary provider of Guide Dog mobility service to people who are vision impaired. It costs more than $35,000 and take two years to train each individual Guide Dog; so every dollar counts.
We would like to thank all of our fantastic sponsors, who have generously donated funds to help us produce and distribute our calendar to a wider audience. Finally, a special mention to everyone who was involved in the production of the calendar or who participated in the shoot; including our animal friends"

Ruff Times

I'm hoping its the stress but it's been a rough few days and today just down right sucked.

Friday I was told that my farm placement in New Zealand has been cancelled and I have to wait till Tuesday to get another placement sorted. 😫😫😫😫 completely bummed out, but trying to be excited for what other adventures are in store for me

Saturday I was real sick. lots of sweat, bodily fluids and a huge dose of sleep! 😷 I know you needed the details - veterinarians can't be afraid to talk about anything!!

And I don't even want to talk about today - full of realisations about a number of people really close to me... But when times are tough, I quickly realise I just need my cats :) 😻🐾Krazy Kitty Kat Lady 4 Life!!!

I'm trying to hang on to the light at the end of the tunnel, a study break is one week away - I can make it!!!

Keep The Good News Comin'

With thundering in my chest … only days after the exams… the words were uttered… It can't be true, results always take 2 weeks to come back…. Yes it was true.. The microbiology exams had been graded.. The whole minute it took to get my phone out of my pocket, unlocked, and into the internet; then another minute to log onto my school website, into the right class folder, scroll ALL the way to the bottom of the page, click on the grades button, the 30 seconds for that screen to load (because school internet is super slow), then to scroll to the bottom of that screen…. IT WAS TORTURE… I thought I was going to pee my pants… and there it was… a gleaming 62%!!!

WHAT?!?! my nervousness turned into hysterically laughter and disbelief. I had guessed on upwards of 70% with the remaining 30% being slightly educated guesses!

This pretty much sums up the last two weeks of my life:

But in the end this news has really helped my motivation. I have what it takes to be here, I just need to keep chugging along despite the pure exhaustion! :) :)

3% Trying to Hard

Good news! I passed my Parasitology Exam with a 53%, so in my eyes that is 3% trying to hard! :P
I am really starting to live by the classic vet school motto: "P's get Degrees!"   (P=Pass, 50% = pass) ha

Now lets hope by the same miracle that I passed my microbiology midterm! :(

And now I am going to try something a little bit different for my photos and I hope this works better than trying to upload youtube slideshows! Let me know! Well since its my bedtime I can't fiddle around with this too much! So tonight I am just going to give you the link to some sunrise photos on my flickr account, but I am hoping to have my flickr account directly incorporated into my blog posts… one day at a time - some pictures are better than no pictures!

Fun with Faeces

Well thats over with... so many viruses so little time.

A 1 hour exam Microbiology for 40% of my final grade and none of the questions were clinically relevant - totally what I am paying to be here for.....I really hope I at least managed a pass because yes I did just waste two weeks of my life cramming for that test and rote memorising a bunch of stuff that didn't end up helping and now I have two essays due that really could have used the extra loving! Oh hindsight - always 20/20, always a pain in the ass!

Now on to parasite lab - Its a Fun with Faeces kind of day.... I hope we find no parasites so my lab report is super short and easy! :)

To Many Tails To Tell

Did you see what I did there? You know - Tales <--> Tails ...

So just over 4 months have gone by without a peep from me, but I am here to say I'm back once more.

First semester was chugging along at high speed and I had a lot of work scheduling changes, so of course the blog had to slip behind. Then May came... on the morning of May 13 I was out for a walk, Brian came to pick me up so I could attend lecture and as he was turning into a subdivision, so I could jump in off the main road,  he was in a head on collision at combined speeds of 130 kms/h. It was our little blue, 2-door hatchback Ford Ka against a pickup truck towing a trailer of gardening/landscaping tools. The air bags deployed and the electronics under the passenger dashboard started sparking and eventually did start on fire but after Brian was already on his way to the hospital. Thankfully, HE WAS WEARING HIS SEATBELT, and he left the scene without any major wounds or fractures. The ambulance ride and hospital are a huge long story for another time, but in the end Brian had no internal bleeding, no kidney damage, no broken bones! He did however leave with severe muscle damage all across his chest + torn cartilage on his ribcage, the muscles in his left shoulder were damaged from being on the gear shift, and his leg muscles also because of shifting. He got an unexplained clean laceration across his right knee which required the surgical team to assess if his patella tendon was torn or impacted. Thankfully it was not, but the laceration needed 4 stitches and his knee was awfully swollen, and it is still in rehab currently. It was a miracle for how uninjured he was, but he did sustain a major concussion. One that left him with short term memory loss of a minute or less. He could remember possibly up to two mins on a good day. The only thing he could remember was that he couldn't remember anything and by the time he got his notebook out to write it down he would forget what he wanted to write. His anger at his mental state was so heart-wrenching to witness, and the pain he was in on top of it - I couldn't imagine. When he got home he slept for 2 days, I had to wake up every 2-4 hours to check his vitals and get him to drink and take pain medication. I helped him to dress and walk to the bathroom and I did anything I could to make the pain a little less. His resets were so hard on him that he hated being home. He actually preferred for me to drive him around because that is what is mom would do with him when he was little in order to get him to fall asleep. It worked every time.

The brown paper bag is the bag of extinguishing powder they poured on/in our car

Then after two weeks, on the night of Monday, May 26th, I was back at my first night at work after the accident and Brian managed to get into our new car. His intentions were good and just went down the road to the IGA to get us dinner for when I got off work like he did so many times before. However, it was rainy, it was a new car, and HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVING!! But he did and he managed to hit the gravel shoulder over correct on a newly paved and slick road, rolled the car twice and slammed driver-side and wheels on ground (amazingly) into a pole. If the pole had not been there he would have kept rolling and wouldn't be here today. A lovely young women stopped and stayed with Brian until helped arrived and she also called me. My roommate came and got me from work, and drove me to the scene. This whole time I was also in contact with one of the police officers at the scene and with an ambulance paramedic. They had to jaws of life the roof off of the car to get Brian out, but he was stable in the ambulance and had just left for the hospital when I got to the scene which was so close to home and he had a pizza for dinner. Ha I love pizza! And to find out the most amazing thing was the witness followed the ambulance to the hospital and kept in contact with me and waited for my best friend and I to arrive. I cleaned out the car for what I could. I actually had a really good conversation with the police officer and he was super helpful, him and the tow trunk guy even managed to get the trunk open to save my birdseed shopping bags that my grandma made for me! And the cop even had the same tow truck guy tow his car once! haha Then once I had the car cleaned and put the items in my roommates car, the police officers left and let me settle the towing with the driver. I watched him all by himself hook the car up, slide it away from the pole and then get it up on the bed flawlessly. And to my amazement he gave me a hug and told me that he knows a guy down the road who will give him cash for the car and I can just go and be with my partner - done deal!!! It was so generous of him. Then my roommate dashed me home to empty her car, get Brian's passport and overseas health insurance card and then my roommate had to get up early for a conference, so my best friend came and stayed with Brian and I at the hospital for hours! And when we arrived the witness was still there and got to go in and see Brian while my best friend and I went to the bathroom. Then we went in and thanked her for everything she did. And then there was Brian, a true human cockroach - can't kill that guy for anything apparently! :P Just kidding!! Hahaha but Cocky is my bestfriends new nickname for Brian! But seriously this kid came out with his short term memory FIXED except for a complete blank on the previous two weeks and it has taken a few months but those two weeks have now mostly come back to him. He had a few lacerations on his right arm where he decided to get up close and personal with the pole! But the hospital total ignored these and I had to take the glass out myself and put iodine on it and clean it and bandage it for a few days, luckily they weren't deep. He again was wearing his seat belt and now the damage to every single muscle fibre in his chest has been uncomprehendingly painful. Lastly, when we left Brian to rest for the night we found a GIANT piece of glass just inside the canal of his ear but far enough to have to get a hook tool to get it out but couldn't go deep enough to cause more damage, but apparently the glass was forgotten about until last rounds before shift change so 5-6am. The next morning I offered to take my roommate to the conference so that I could pick Brian up from the hospital and go to the pharmacy for his medicine and the store for food, but instead my best friends husband took their son to school and came in the opposite direction from hospital to come get me and then took me to Fremantle to the hospital to discharge Brian. Again there was a whole story that I wont get into here, but we will never ever be returning to the hospital even if our life depends on it. EVER. Then my best friends husband drove us to everywhere I had to go and we got Brian home and I took care of him again! This time I employed the help of Brian's friend T, who has become so close to us over these past few months! He drove me around for weeks, he came and hung out with Brian for hours so I didn't have to miss work. Brian's brain was so incredibly fixed I am still sooo shocked and happy I wouldn't take back the second accident for anything!!

I never met the driver from the truck across the street and the guy that helped me must have gotten to the scene first, because the other guy never got out! haha

In the weeks following the accidents so much has changed in our lives. Immediately was dealing with insurance companies from the first accident and had to gather so much proof to claim financial hardship. (And just today August 27, 2014 we received the official notice that the insurance company truly understands we are broke as sh*t and have settled the claim!!!!!!) Then had to compile evidence to submit to defer my final examinations which were starting in June. I received deferred status the morning of my very first final exam. I had obviously not studied the entire last month of class let alone attending lectures in any form. Brian's family all chipped in money to get us enough money to purchase another vehicle because we live just outside any bus routes and THANK YOU! It is an amazing vehicle. A 4wheel drive Kia Sportage 1997 manual! Its so small for a 4wd but it handles sooo well! And I love it so much, just last week I put $600 into servicing her! Top Things: Transmission flush, brake line flush (SOOO MUCH BETTER), and computer diagnostics just for new purchasing relief. Then winter break was 4 weeks long, but technically I had the two weeks of finals off since I got deferment, so I ended up picking up more hours at work while my classmates took exams. Brian was out of work for about 8 weeks time, and I was out of work for a total of about 4 weeks. Pretty rough on the budget! But that is life and all you can do is keep moving forward with a smile on your face for all that we still had, have now, and will have in the future.

Then there was a bunch of small odds and ends just to put into place - taking a 40min drive to the original storage company that our first car got towed to to clean it out and pay for the towing ($500 minus $50 for letting them salvage it). Then our in June our landlord, who is amazingly understanding and has amazing taste in wine, decided upon eviction of our roommates... yes you read that correctly that turned plural... and I did feel bad for my classmate because she was going through finals and only had one week before going down to the farm practical we were supposed to go on together but I had to cancel due to the accidents. And then our landlord came home about a week later and was here for two weeks and it was so awesome having him around to help with the yard and stuff and just to catch up and here about New York and his model wife!!! Such an awesome couple!! :) I just drink the wine while Brian and him talk about bands for hours! Then I felt so awful because there was a massive storm the night before the big moveout day for our roommates and there was a giant tree branch across the entire driveway!! But all turned out well and they have a cute new apartment together really close to the ocean and close to Fremantle which is just still an awesome little town/suburb (perth labels still confuse me). Especially this: I live in the suburb _____ that is a just a section of what is known as the city of Cockburn Central which is just a suburb of Perth, WA which stands for the whole region, unless you specify and say Perth CBD or city centre! crazy Australian lingo! Now both Brian and I are back at work and taking one day at a time!

I attended a farm placement (a graduate requirement) at an Alpaca Stud in Serpentine, WA at the very end of winter break (July) and a week before my deferred exams. And I am soo happy I didn't cancel. I attended with my bestie, my old roommate, and one of my nicest classmates. It was an experience of a lifetime! I had sooo much fun and there was SOO MANY BABIES!!! There was a 3 week old baby boy who is chocolate brown and has a white Z on his face soo aptly named Zoro (Baby #4) - and his name stuck! AND HE IS GOING TO COME HOME WITH ME!!! Along with another baby boy born August 8 (Baby #66) who is ginger and white (technically not called ginger in alpaca lingo but that's what I keep calling him) and since his mom's name is Savannah (you know like the desert) - Brian and I have decided his name shall be Sal Amander (you know like salamander - because they live in the desert) hahahaha. We are very excited. We are going to help the family sheer in October, and then halter training in December and then they can come home. We are sincerely hoping we can make an agistment deal with our landlord so we can keep them here with us, but if not there is a few other agisting places we have in mind. But I know they will love me more if they get a daily dose of my crazy! :) Yea - I kind of became Alpaca addicted! just a little! Totally in love. :)

My Deferred exams went really well - well in all honestly they didn't feel very good after taking them - but in the end I pulled off really good grades! I received a Distinction in pathology and credits in my other two classes (even though I was 1% away from a distinction in animal systems 2: welfare and behavior) - I'm not bitter about it at all, I swear :P! Again, my deferred exams were in the first week of school and I feel like I have been behind since, but I have made it this far so I will just keep chugging along! AND NOW I HAVE A NEW STUDY!!! :)

I promise all my things got filed and put away and you can still see the whole floor! Brian isn't allowed in for long so it stays really clean! :P

Brian and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary at the end of June very casually with lunch at a new cafe and a walk with Nomsa. It was very low key and very us! :)

My birthday was August 1st and I woke up early to skype with my mom and dad, and then Brian and I hit the road and drove 1hr 40mins north of the city to Yanchep National Park! So many kangaroos, a cave tour, picnic in the woods, a hike around loch McNess, within 8 metres of 8 (supposedly 10) Koalas and an informational talk about them, and then we left just in time to make it to dinner in the city at Ninnikup Jip (The Garlic House) which is a Korean restaurant with strong Japanese and western influences with a small gathering of close friends (but not all my friends here in perth). All day I was surrounded by great friends and love! :) Totally worth skipping intro lab on parasites :P

7am car ride!! :)
Birthday cards and the start to all my presents!
The invitation photo to my birthday dinner! :P

Other than that - the weeks just keep slipping by with the studying, getting Brian to and from work, I was working 3 days a week, and walking Nomsa 3 days a week. And this week has been our first study break of the semester and it was so needed! I finally feel like I have a better grasp on this semester and I can maybe focus better (that just might be the sleep)- having exams week one threw me off and I hope to never experience that again.

I have loads of pictures to share and I hope to get them up early tomorrow! Lots of picture flowers from my walks with Nomsa, just a few alpaca pictures (not too many because I can't share farm secrets of course), probably a few cat photos snuck in there, and any other ones I feel like letting the public see! There is a good chance I am going to try something new with my pictures instead of the youtube photos and I need everyone to try and comment or send me an email at kitkat2017@outlook.com so I know which format you like to see my photos in.

OH I forgot to add in that I passed my first quiz of the semester in my Immunology & Molecular Genetics course! I achieved a 95% on our quantitative genetics quiz! :D Good boost to keep pushing to catch up! I have just a few more announcements to share in a few days - but I have to hold them secret for now. Plus will give me an excuse to stay on top of blogging more regularly!! hahaha a wish I will keep striving for!

VPL (Veterinary Professional Life) CAMP:

DAYS WITHOUT WATER:
So, our house is not hooked up to city water. All of our drinking/flushing/bathing water all comes from a giant 8m across 6m tall tank that holds rainwater. Well, on our check of the water level on a friday through a tiny whole in the top it, it appeared really low. We had decided that we would order in some water trucks on the monday. Well by Saturday PM we were pretty much out of water or at least getting close to the pump intake. We called on sunday and ordered two tanks/trucks of water($250 total) but they didn't come out till Wednesday. Within 5 minutes of starting to pump water in, there was water bubbling out of the bottom of the tank everywhere! So our liner was busted! The water guy helped me measure the tank and gave me a number for a liner repair place. The guy had to do some inventory and work up the numbers and got back to me the next day (Thursday). He said he had one brand in stock and could put it in by Wednesday or we would have to wait and order the other brand and wait 3 weeks!! Obviously we needed water… we were hauling water in our cooler from down at the barn just to flush the toilet! So I got ahold of my landlord in New York, and called the liner guy back on Friday. He was here by Wednesday and even finished an hour earlier than planned, but the water tank people couldn't make it out till thursday!! A week without water was quite interesting… Brian and I resorted to showering in the showers at school near the bike lockers one night and then the next two times we showered at the vet school surgery (4th/5th year) locker rooms! Way nicer :) And my roommate did a fantastic job cooking dinner with limited fresh water supplies! :) And then the DAY AFTER WE GOT WATER BACK IT DOWN-POURED IN PERTH FOR THE FIRST TIME IN ABOUT 4 MONTHS MINIMUM!!!

Oh Yea! I have a Blog!

Hey ALL!! HOLY COW ITS BEEN A LONG TIME!!

I have so much to tell you! Time has just started to blur together, and its already past midterms! I think of the semester! Time is just flying by!

So I left off with my strengths! That was an epic fail! but I was really surprised at the accuracy of the project anyway!

I went off to VPL camp! That was actually a lot of fun, but I really was over the team building and communication games by day 3! It was pretty full-on! We went to a historic reserve about an hour south of perth, and it was beautiful! They had a ropes course which was great fun! We also had practice consults! And well... mine didn't go well at all.... I couldn't stop laughing because another girl and I work together and were in a group of 4 students to each practice a consult with a different scenario. AND our consult leader was a Dr. who works with us also! He was from the first class that ever went to VPL camp and so he came back to help out! But we work with him and his role during my consult exercise that I picked was to be a super obnoxious client who didn't really care about the cat, kept talking on the phone, and kept telling me all about his life and was being super into it and my whole table couldn't stop laughing so, but it gave me a real sense that I have no idea how I would actually behave if that situation arose in the clinic! It was great fun! The cabins we so old and awesome! I can't show to many pictures that have my other classmates without their permission! but I hope you enjoy the ones I can share! 📷

After VPL camp I was busy writing an animal welfare essay. Got it done just in the knick of time! ⌛️

I have still been working almost every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and we walk Nomsa Wed-Friday mornings still! 😅 And in between there I am the treasurer for FIG (feline interest group), I am a committee member for MAVS (the surgical group), and I attended talks from the Equine group, the exotics group, and all sorts of other intersting activities/groups!

I have pictures from Crab Fest to show you! That was down in Mandurah! It was a really good time, got a little sunburnt but it was worth it! Ate to much, but who doesn't when you go to a festival of that nature! 😄 The Crab tacos were surprisingly the best thing we had!

I also survived a 6 hour pathology midterm assignment/exam.... at least my besti was there through it all and she absolutely LOVED my homemade soup from the day before because she had to pause the assignment to go put the horses away in the pouring rain, so the least I could do was feed her some amazing vegetable soup that I made from scratch! :)

Squirt survived his sterilisation! Now we are hoping he will eventually calm down and stop being such a boy!

Meeting with Dr. Webb - Heidi and I got the chance to meet the wonderful Dr. that inspired me even more than I already was to come to Murdoch. She wrote a blog years ago about her time as a student here, and she started a website that allowed Heidi and I to meet and become best friends. She has married an australian has gotten to stay in Australia after graduation! She is now moving to Queensland to see how being a vet out there is like! It was REALLY amazing  getting to meet her!

Midwives at Midnight - I got to go on this really cool project that has started down south with the Pig Interest Group. It was to a piggery and we got to help deliver babies. The project was hiring two people to do an overnight shifts at the piggery to try and reduce piglet deaths! And they think its actually starting to show some positive results. So my time there was just to learn about how to help deliver piglets, the signs of a sow about to deliver, and give some injections. I got to do a "manual" which is sticking my arm up the sows vagina to check for any other piglets. Then you give them antibiotics after that. I also got to give a few oxytocin injections to induce contractions. Then right as we were getting ready to cow one of the two sows we had been waiting to give birth all night finally started after I decided to give her a belly rub! They actually really like their bellies rubbed and it helps calm them! I rubbed her belly and the other girl with me got to deliver the first baby, then dry it off with this weird powder conditioner and then put them under the heat lamp by their mommy! Then I got to deliver baby number 2 and baby number 4 :) It was such an amazing experience!! I LOVE PIGGIES!!!!! <3

FIG - Feline Interest Group has gotten to put on two talks in April and they were both a major success! One was on Feline Infectious diseases and the other was the role of cats in society and we had a really good discussion on feral cats and how places that have tried to eradicate cats, consequently had an explosion in rats and mice and then bird populations actually declined. So we talked about the success of Trap, Neuter (Vaccinate), and Release. When you do this, the feral cats stop reproducing and the population can stabilise, they also stop being so aggressive and fighting to reproduce, the momma cats can actually start putting on weight rather than just constantly popping out babies! And it is really just a good program! oh me and my silly kitty obsession!

I had my nutrition midterm last week….. and it went… lets just say that! haha! I think I at least got a pass! :) We shall see! Now its all projects and time consuming assignments… ehhh… but I will make it! I am loving vet school and everything that happens no matter how stressful!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!! So glad that I finally got a blog post out! I hope everyone has been good and enjoying life! I know I sure have been! No time for sleep! :)

OH! AND WE ARE GOING TO SEE JEFF BECK ON THURSDAY THIS WEEK!!! Brian's co-worker bought us tickets and its amazing!! We seriously can't believe this!

Look forward to a pictures blog post! :)

HAPPY PI DAY - Strength 3

Humor and playfulness
You like to laugh and tease. Bringing smiles to other people is important to you. You try to see the light side of all situations.

Happy Pi Day everyone (3.14...March 14th, get it?) - I sadly did not eat ANY pie today in celebration and I am QUITE upset about this fact! :( anyone wanna bring me pie?

However, today ended up being a LOT of fun! went to lectures, got my brand new iPhone to work after buying ANOTHER SIM card and being on hold forever and finally just driving the store, tried these natural beeswax ear cleaning candles for the first time! So gross at the amount of crap that comes out of what I thought was clean ears but amazing! and went back to campus to enjoy the Thank Goodness its Friday BBQ (had a cider and amazing salads) played with puppy dogs and saw a bunny, then went to the Herpatological Society talk and got to play with pythons! The handler said he has to feel comfortable enough to let these snakes be handled by 3 year olds for presentations and he demonstrated their tameness by sticking the snakes head in his mouth!! it was nuts! but snake handling is amazing!!! Then there was a break for pizza and more free alcohol :) and then the last talk of the night was on ferrets and the presenter was HILARIOUS!! I would love to work for him he was so funny!! :) It was a really great night! And to end it our landlord has allowed my roommate to adopt the bunny that she has sponsored through one of my classmates bunny rescue! :) ANIMALS!!! <3

Enjoy the photos!!
