PACKAGES!!

SNAIL MAIL IS GREAT!! :)

Brian and I first got two packages at our new residence from his Aunt! One was a box containing a pair of vibram five finger shoes for the each us! Brian now has a super thin slip on pair that doesn't have any straps and I got a treking pair that has a nylon mesh built in the sole for a "rock block" effect! It is AMAZING!! We LOVE THEM SOOO MUCH!! I love how they started with one model and now have 19 styles for women and like 19 for men, plus kids styles! I hate having to wear anything else!
The second package was full of so many goodies: socks, lip balm, JOLLY RANCHERS (OH YEA!!) and trail mix, and so much more... but can't forget the COOLEST PENGUIN BOOKMARK!! (They waddle when you move it back and forth!)

That very night Brian found another package at the barn for us! It was an 18 pound box full of amazingness!!! I can't even describe how many amazing and perfect things my parents and grandparents got us!! Sooo amazing! I will let the pictures explain! (pictures from my new camera!!!) :P

And lastly.....

I can no longer deny being a Krazy Kat Lady (or KitKat as heidi calls me)....

Here we go again.... double up the bottles and lack of sleep:

<3 I am such a sucker!! <3  Anyone looking to adopt in 8-10 weeks time?? :P

They were found in a field and brought in to my work last night! They were found in a field and their umbilical cords are still drying up and havent fallen off... so I am going with they are CHRISTMAS BABIES!! :)

I hope everyone had amazing holidays and To my family - I promise you will all receive your Christmas Cards before the end of January!! HAHAHAHA :D

Whole New Meaning to Boxing Day

I was driving to work this morning, windows down cruising along enjoying the beauty of the place I live in.... did I mention my work is right in the middle of a reserve? ITS BEAUTIFUL ESPECIALLY EARLY MORNING....anyway... This particular morning about 1 km or less from my work, a rainbow lorikeet decided to fly right through my wide open window, PUNCH me in the face with its body and then landed on my passenger seat, on its back, kind of scratched its face with its feet and then look me right in the eyes and passed away as I pulled into my work where I would have loved to try to save the poor bird! Not once did I think my life was in danger or how it easily could have knocked me out or I could have swerved and crashed! Crazy to think about when every ounce of me was 80% in disbelief that there was a bird lying on my seat and that it hit me in the face, and then the other 20% was scared for the birdies life and I just wanted the best for him!

Here is a picture of how pretty and BIG he was!!!!

Then I had a crazy 8 hour shift after that! Good ole' animals always eating and doing things they shouldn't! <3 Love them all! :)

OH and then I brought Little Man to work last weekend to get him more socialised! He is just a little cutie!

Did you get my Boxing Day pun?? Like Punched in the face by a bird.... Boxing as in the sport ;) :)

Date Night!

So we didn't have as crazy a night as the movie, but it was still a really good time!
Brian got off work early, too me up to Carousel to see Gravity in 3D! AMAZING!! :) Sandra Bullock did REALLY  REALLY good! I really enjoyed it! :)

After the movie we drove home threw on our swimsuits and hit up the beach for about 2 hours! It was a high of 38C yesterday with barely any wind and when it was there it was sooo hot! but the water helped so much!

Then we came home and showered and went out to Freo for Sunday night dinner. Apparently we were like 5 mins to late to order from Mexican Kitchen (super bummed) but we went to Pizza BellaRoma just down the street for pasta and beer! :)

It was a really great date night! And our last day of freedom for awhile! Today marks the start of the greyhound puppy sitting until Dec. 29th and nomsa is being walked m-f and then the horses have to be brought in and fed at night! :) Oh yea and we have jobs in there as well! haha

I hope everyone is having a great christmas season! :)

I think our tree needs more lights! haha

My Saturday Off

So yesterday was probably my last saturday off for awhile and I think I rather enjoyed it!

Brian had to work from 9-4pm so what do I do, I go visit him at work!  I needed a new outdoor broom anyway, but I brought him lunch and I think he was surprised! On my way there, what do I see….A CHICKEN GOAT TRUCK!

Then we bought our first Australian Christmas Tree!!!

Thats right! We got a mandarin orange tree!! It has purple and silver ornaments and silver circle lights! I will try to take a picture when its darker! And no that beautiful bike behind the tree is our landlords not ours :(

Andy said he are more than welcome to plant it in the backyard after christmas :) SOOO EXCITED!!

Next we went to the beach for a few hours, no sign of jellies! It felt sooo good to be in the water when it was 39C yesterday! ehh sooo hot!!

Then we came home to shower and head up to north of the city to our friend's house! When shower time came along, it took a little longer than expected….

He actually stayed in the shower with me for about 10mins. He wasn't a super fan of it, but he wasn't freaking out like he hated it either! He happy as long as he was cuddled and got kisses! I even found him sleeping in the shower this morning! haha

And then we finally made it up to the city where we surprised them with a cooler full of Strongbow Hard Apple Cider! :) And they surprised us with a mini bonfire and BBQ! :)

And sadly we really didn't get to see any of the meteor shower.. Not sure if Armadale lights where too bright or if we needed the binoculars…. but we only saw a few! :( Kind of bummed out! but I got to sleep in this super hot sunday morning so everything is alright in my book! :)

OH yea! Here is the big christmas tree in the city!

Starting to feel a bit like the Christmas Season

I have been so busy running around taking care of animals that I forget almost daily that its December. Thankfully I have Facebook to show me the photos of the snow and temperatures in the negatives to remind me that it feels like Christmas back home. I think it will really help if Brian and I get a little Christmas tree. What really helps is the fantastic gift we got yesterday from Nomsa's mom. She got us an Auto Master's voucher for $125.00 when we take our car in next which I hope will be next week! :) It was the BEST gift to start off the christmas season! We should have the keys to our PObox today.. or so we hope… and then I can't wait for everything else to come!! :) It means so much to us to have such a caring and supportive family! <3 We love and miss all of you!!

Here are a few photos of a project I have been working on for all the mail I get:

These are both from my Granny! I absolutely love the kitty and how much it looks like my baby mooki  and Aunt Carol's Vince! :) minus the green eyes but thats ok!
These are all post cards from my dad!! :) I cut out the back so I can read his heart-warming words, and then I put the date and I try to write down notes of what was happening that week or day that I got the postcard (which this page doesn't show)! I LOVE YOU DADDY!

Here is an OK view of the damage to my phone! Still works like a champ even with bits of microchip showing!! Gotta love the iPhone 3 = which is considered ancient at this point! haha

And lastly for anyone not on my Facebook…. here is pictures of my Spider friend that lived there for about 5 hours until Brian got home from work. We thought of translocating him outside and then realised just how big that sucker was, so…. he died…. :P

No Internet = No Pictures

Hey everyone so while our house is amazingly awesome, we live in the middle of one of perth's dead zones. We can't get broadband internet and so we are relying on cell signal internet $50 for 5GB! THAT IS A JOKE RIGHT?! ehhh I miss america's unlimited data and just pay for speed plans!! Since I have a supp exam, I am not going to waste my 5GB on uploading pictures, but I do start watching the greyhounds next week and they have some internet I can use :) YAY! I have so many photos to share! :)

My break has been so busy so far! Just this last week I worked Friday night, Saturday from 9am-4pm then went to our friends house north of the city and didn't get home until 3am and when I went to go lay down I had remembered I had a huge Skype date with my family at 9am at campus! IT WAS AMAZING!!! Everyone looked great and looked so festive! Sorry its sooo cold there hahaha! I got in a few hours nap before working from 4pm-12:20am! up by 730, but Brian went to go walk nomsa and let me go back to bed! :) My best friend and I went to lunch down in freo and I got a double mushroom burger, which was literally two GIANT mushrooms and the "burger" patties and it was AMAZING!! Heidi and I both got strawberry daiquiris, they were alright but not the best ones I've ever had! Then we hit up the beach for like an hour! It was amazing, but now she is (sadly for me) going back to Queensland until February! And when she gets back I am going on my two week vacation down to Denmark, WA! But we will be study buddies for second year before we know it…. I'll try to enjoy summer without her! hahaha Then we picked up squirt from his weekend stay at her house and she took me home so I could go to work 530-930! It was a very calm Monday night which I was super grateful for! Today started with a nomsa walk, a migraine induced nap, laundry and Brian and I both working.

Starting this week we have added Nomsa walks on Mondays and Tuesdays until Dec. 24th on top of our normal wed-friday. Taking care of the horses starts this Friday evening. And the Greyhounds I am watching everyday until the 29th starts early next week! :)

Tomorrow is a work meeting/christmas party for Brian's work at a restaurant down the street that we are going to and then it is just work for Thursday, Friday, Sunday! Sadly Brian works Saturday from 9-4 so we won't be able to do anything majorly fun! :P BUT we have decided his christmas present to me is taking me to the ONE iMax in WA to see THE HOBBIT!!! AHHHHHH NERD ALERT!! SOOOO EXCITED!!!! <3 We are going to go get our camera next week or christmas week as a present from my mommy and daddy! :) I think we are pretty positive we have decided on the Olympus Tough TG-2! Its an underwater camera up to 15m!! :) Then hopefully by next year christmas or my birthday we can get a fancy camera with changing lenses. :D My present to Brian is probably going to be camping equipment for our trip down south!

Well I think that is all the information I have to share for today!! :) I am hoping to get all my christmas post cards ready on Saturday so I can post them on Monday!! I am thinking of everyone so much during this holiday season! I love you and take comfort in knowing that I am following my dreams, I'm so happy, and I get to play with animals during all the holidays this year!

Good Luck to everyone in the US taking your finals now!! :D

First Year 2/3 Complete

You are all the first to know… not even Facebook! :P

I HAVE PASSED MY FIRST YEAR OF VET SCHOOL…. we'll 2/3rds of it at least!

Anatomy….. dear god… I got exactly a 50% Pass.. I do not know my individual grades for theory or prac, but I think this semester I may want to know how I actually did. Theory had to have saved my bum because my mid semester exam was only a 39% :D Either way I am DONE with anatomy YAY!!!!! Now I can learn it in a more enjoyable way! haha

Animal Systems - again, I have no individual grade for my farm handling component but I will email them for it as well as my theory final (WHICH WAS HELL LONG) It was 180 questions… 100multiple choice but they were all like paragraph form to read and it was soooooo hard to make it to the end and all the breed ID photos up on the projector all just started to look the same!! Oh great… its another cow I don't recognise! but I ended up with a 68% in the class. SOOOO EXCITED FOR THAT TO BE OVER!!!

Physiology - well the bright side is that I got a 60% in the class overall which is a C. however the class guidelines stipulate that you have to get a minimum of 50% on the final NO MATTER WHAT grades you previously received in the class. Lucky me had a GREAT midterm (in the 80s I believe it was); however I decided to move right before my physio exam (like 3 days before it) and I ended up with a 46% on the final! The multiple choice I got 54% and then just sucked at the short answer. I met with my teacher and I have a supplementary final exam to take in January! I am really happy to really learn the neurophysiology over again because I know it is going to be sooooo relevant in later years and I better wrap my head around it now!

So even though I have passed all my classes, I still have to sit a supp for physio to get the official pass and then I can announce that I didn't flunk out of my first year in vet school in a crazy hard new educational system! Not to mention the CRAZY housing situation here! I have never lived in a place like Australia, and I love and hate it all the time for how crazy laid back and disorganised this place really is! All I can hope is that this farm house continues to be a saving grace and I show Vet School who is boss next year! :D

Side notes: I HATE WAITING SOOOOO LONG FOR MY RESULTS TO COME BACK!! I HAVE BEEN A CRAZY STRESS TORNADO FOR WEEKS!! Not cool, not cool! And we were supposed to have to wait until Monday for them to come out! BEST WEEKEND PRESENT EVER!!

2nd side note: Brian and I rescued a golden retriever today! It was amazing good karma to know it all worked out. We were heading down our road to head to nomsa's house to give her, her walk this AM when there was a doggie running on the side of the road with no person near by. In Australia it seems like no dogs are EVER on leads when on a walk so before panicking and thinking the dog is lost the owner is usually just far behind. With no one in site, Brian pulled over, I hopped out and tried to coax her to me. She decided to run into the road… thankfully no cars…. THEN she just kept running around me, so Brian tried.. She really liked the male figure and Brian was able to catch her, AFTER RUNNING INTO TRAFFIC again! This time a guy honked at us, didn't slow down and swore at us as he drove off - really??? how in appropriate… super upsetting! But anyway, the doggie had a collar on with two phone numbers and we called them both and left a message and then we were just going to go over the hill and take the dog to my work, but they said they were too full for a non-emergency and so we took the dog to the regular vet hospital down the street from my work! Within minutes of turning her in the owner had called me back and was on her way to pick her up! Molly was the sweetest dog, and if today hadn't been so cloudy, I am not sure she would have lasted very long out in the sun! She was super panting, we had hot water but she didn't know how to drink it dripping from a bottle and I was terribly scared of her getting heat stroke because she was so fluffy! All is well in molly's life now :)

So... Where have I been?!?

So I am just going to do a run-down of what has happened (or what I can remember through the stress cloud) and then I will post a bunch of photos over the next few days :)

October 3rd - Brian's birthday. We went to the Perth Royal Show. This is a huge County fair north of the river! It was AMAZING!! It was SOOOOO hot the day we went, but we survived!

That was also over the same study break when we went to the zoo which we already know was a good time!

Two weeks later was my rectal palpation lab on cattle! It was SUCH an amazing time! Feeling baby cows was so surreal! Most people wouldn't be so excited to shove their entire arm up a cows bum, but I couldn't be  more thrilled! It was a smelly good time! :)

Then as always there was lectures and a bunch of info talks put on by the Vet School Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The talks are at lunch time or usually around 530pm and guest speakers come in to talk about so much cool stuff. Some of the groups include: pigs, dogs, cats, surgery, wildlife, welfare, business, cows, and horses. I am sure there is plenty more but that's all I can think of right now!

Also all of October I had to work on a huge group project. We were given a clinical case and we had to research the case, the normal physiology of the species, the pathophysiology, and diagnostics and treatment. We had to gather all this information, come up with learning objectives, meet with our teacher twice and then finally we presented our case to the class during the last week of lectures all in 10 mins. Trying to condense endotoxemia of a horse into a 10 min talk was very interesting but my group was AMAZING and we did really well.

In between all of this Brian and I still both worked and walked Nomsa Wednesday's- Fridays. In the beginning of October our roommate from Taiwan left to go on a few month journey through SOO many countries! SOOO jealous! He was such an amazing person to meet and I hope we stay in contact like we have so far! Then my Michigan friend from first year vet school decided she wanted out of the university village and that Brian and I would be OK roommates so she moved in! The fun with this was that we were subleasing our apartment in freo. We never signed any contract, just put up a small bond. We were told that the lease ended at the end of October and that we could contact the landlords if we wanted to extend our lease. We were TOTALLY planning on extending because Freo is AMAZING! but the kitchen needed to be redone, the shower had been leaking for a month without getting fixed and the very last week we were there the washing machine broke. At this point we were still hoping the landlords would answer my attempts to get ahold of them but we were giving up hope. My besti, Heidi moved her horse from Queensland over here to Perth and she boards him at this property close to school. The owner of the house spends most of his time overseas, but rents out half of his house and then boards heidi's horse and 2 others. We would have looked at it right away when we were asked to leave Melville, but the guy who owns the house was out of town. So we found the Freo solution. Then thankfully the guy came home at the end of October and we decided to take a look at his place just to have a back-up plan, in case we couldn't extend our lease in Freo. However, this house is AMAZING! AND he said he would clean out his study and make that a bedroom for kayleigh. Sooo the fun part was that the horse house guy was leaving for the states the middle of November and he was getting back after Kayleigh was leaving for the states... so this inevitably made us move the week before finals while both were in town!!!  And as soon as I told the freo landlords I was moving out, because of their lack of communication and effort to help fix the BROKEN shower and washing machine, they decided I was worth the time to talk to! In the end we ended up moving into the horse house and cleaning the old place in 4 days time and then I had a final exam in physiology 3 days later... it was pretty rough, but I got through so far. I promise pictures of the house in the next post. We have no mailbox at the property but got a PO box sorted out so if you want to know my address, leave me a comment telling me to email or leave me your email and I will give you my new address! I really hope we do not have to move again for a LONG LONG TIME!! I love it here. Our new landlord is now back from the US until after New Years and his wife who is a model and lives in New York City will be joining us in two weeks time. They will go back to New York together after the new year!

The little bottle raised kitten that Heidi took home from work is mostly in my care now and he is about 10 weeks old. He is due for sterlisation and vaccinations! He is such a fun little stinker! :) Brian and Ash are still unsure about how they feel about Heidi and I having a love-child, but I think co-custody is working out well! :)

At this point finals are over. I have recieved word that I have to sit a supplementary final exam for physiology because I recieved a 46% on the final. Even though I passed the class overall, the class specifies that you have to get a minimum of a 50% on the final to pass the class despite all other grades. LAME! But to be honest, I am proud of a 46% for how rough this semester was and moving so many times! And I really appreciate having to sit a supp because I can actually maybe learn the material to my full potential! honestly sooo excited for more time! Neurophysiology is intense! All other grades don't get released until Monday December 9th! I have never ever had to wait so long for grades until I came to Australia!! THIS IS AWEFUL!! Apparently, some of my classmates got supp emails for anatomy today, but I didn't receive anything... This could be one of two things: 1. I failed SOOO bad that I am not even offered a supp and just have to retake class or 2. I passed......#2 is a long shot! :P too much stress! I hope for the best for anatomy and animal systems, but we will just have to wait patiently!

Brian and I have no work restriction limit on our visa's for the summer so we are working like CRAZY hours. We are also going to be watching and walking my classmates two greyhounds daily until Dec. 29 and then again Jan. 2-5 I believe. We will continue to walk nomsa most wednesday's through Fridays, except for two weeks around xmas and New Years. My friend Heidi is going back home to queensland for most of the summer so I get to feed and put the horses into their stalls every monday and friday night until she gets home (Perth :P) in February. I also get to ride willow when I want, as long as I communicate with all the other people covering heidi's shifts so we do not overwork him! He is only a 4 year old baby, but he is soooo handsome! <3 And A bit of a carrot slut! hahahahahahaha if I feed him part of a carrot, he will enjoy it, but almost immediately ignore me to check if brian has part of a carrot to share (usually does). AND he sometimes wont come straight to the gate for a pet when I walk the driveway if I dont have a carrot and he will take his sweet time! hahaha He makes my heart melt! <3

Lastly, the month of February is going to be amazing!! For one of my vet school first year requirements is that we need to spend 1 week inside a vet hospital to observe how clinics run. This has usually been done to outside clinics only, this year they opened it up to first years to do it in the Murdoch Small Animal Emergency Hospital - so many specialist branches ( I would probably pick surgery), or you can do your week at the Murdoch Equine Hospital. I signed up for the Equine barn for now, but I am thinking I might actually observe the emergency clinic that I work at so that I can actually see what goes into emergency medicine from a vet perspective. I am just a receptionist and I miss out on a lot of the clinical aspects of my clinic! ANYWAYS, no matter where I go, I get to be in a clinic for a week and then I am taking holiday for TWO FULL WEEKS!!!!!!! No dog walking, no pet sitting, just Brian and I and the keys to Nomsa's mom's farmhouse on the beach down in Denmark, WA! AHHHH SOOO EXCITED!!!! We are going to take the whole time just traveling slowly down the coast. I really really want Heid, Ash, and the kids to come down and meet us in Margaret River (WINE COUNTRY) for an overnighter! Do a winery tour and hit up the beach with the kiddos! and they go home while Brian and I continue our journey!! I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING!! I AM SOOOO BEYOND FREAKING OUT!!! WA WATCH OUT!!! First stop is rockingham and PENGUIN ISLAND!!!!! :) :)

As most from facebook knows already, tales of being stung by my first jelly to GIANT spiders on our wall will be coming up soon! This post is long enough!! I promise to never ignore this blog for so long again!!! :P
